They say: “when you have no expectations, you have little disappointments.” This came to mind after listening to Alexis Jordan’s “Acid Rain.” Yea, it’s just that bad.

First, a voice blares in your ears telling you to “get up,” not to be confused with Laurence Fishburne’s iconic outcry. The uninspired beat kicks in, J. Cole includes “prevail, tell and excel” in his rap, which made me think about that God-awful Azealia Banks song. I don’t know either.

By the time Alexis appears on the record, I was scrabbling to turn it off. Before doing so, I was able to hear her voice, and surprisingly, it’s quite pleasantly. Unfortunately, the song, written by Sia and produced by Stargate, sounds like a “Titanium” rip-off.

If Stargate wants their StarRoc princess to impact the masses, they should focus on providing her with more convincing material. Alexis is young, though, so she has an ample amount of time to develop her sound. However, when listeners prefer real acid rain in their ears as opposed to “Acid Rain,” there is a problem in the record-making process.
